Fresh political crisis appears to be brewing in Rivers State<\/a> after the Rivers State House of Assembly threatened to impeach the state governor, Sim Fubara.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The assembly declared that it \u201cwill not hesitate to impeach Fubara, if it becomes the last resort to uphold the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, made this declaration during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital.<\/p>\n

The Speaker was flanked by 26 of his colleagues.<\/p>\n

This is as the 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, took a swipe at the former Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, led by Dr Abiye Sekibo, over its recent attack on Wike.<\/p>\n

In 2023, the lawmakers had threatened to impeach the governor following his face-off with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.<\/p>\n

But in December, 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly had withdrawn their impeachment notice against Fubara.<\/p>\n

This was contained in the notice of withdrawal read on the floor of the House on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

They said the decision was made out of respect for President Bola Tinubu who had convened a reconciliation meeting between the warring parties.<\/p>\n

Africa Today News, New York recalls that that President Tinubu had in January brokered a peace deal between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.<\/p>\n

Recall that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had last week declared that his administration will not be cut short by anything or any force, even as he claimed that the people of Rivers State can attest that he won the 2023 gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n

Fubara, who called on the people of the state not to panic, assured them of his administration\u2019s determination to protect their lives and properties.<\/p>\n

He spoke while addressing members of the Family Support Group, who were on a solidarity visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
