{"id":109331,"date":"2024-04-01T08:06:40","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T12:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africatodaynewsnewyork.com\/?p=109331"},"modified":"2024-04-01T08:06:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T12:06:40","slug":"el-rufais-debt-strangulating-kaduna-state-shehu-sani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africatodaynewsnewyork.com\/2024\/04\/01\/el-rufais-debt-strangulating-kaduna-state-shehu-sani\/","title":{"rendered":"El-Rufai\u2019s Debt Strangulating Kaduna State \u2013 Shehu Sani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A former Senator, Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central, has stated that if he had been listened to when he opposed former governor <a href=\"https:\/\/africadailynews.net\/2023\/06\/12\/religious-bigotry-why-el-rufai-must-be-duly-prosecuted.html\">Nasir El-Rufai\u2019s<\/a> acquisition of\u00a0loans, Kaduna State would not have found itself in the current quagmire of a multi-million dollar debt burden.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Africa Today News, New York reports that Shehu Sani recently commented on the statements made by Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor had mentioned that his administration inherited a significant debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 billion Contractual Liabilities from the previous administration.<\/p>\n<p>This debt burden has made it difficult for the current administration to pay salaries.<\/p>\n<p>Sani while speaking with newsmen said he was insulted for rejecting the $350 million World Bank loan request by the then El-Rufai administration, saying \u201c<em>the hour of reckoning has come for every citizen of the state.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI was insulted for saying no to that loan. If you look at what I said about this state, there has never been any of my predictions that has not come to pass..Today the state is strangulated because of that money which we couldn\u2019t pay,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Uba Sani had during a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday said, the huge debt burden was eating deep into the State\u2019s Federal Allocation.<\/p>\n<p>Sani, lamented that, due to the rise in the exchange rate, Kaduna state is now paying back almost triple of what was borrowed by the previous administration of Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, seven out of the N10billion Federal Allocation for the Kaduna State in March, was deducted to service the State\u2019s debt.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor further lamented that the state was left with N3billion, an amount which is not enough to pay salary, as the state\u2019s monthly salary bill stands at N5.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/africatodaynewsnewyork.com\/\"><strong>Africa Today News, New York<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former Senator, Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central, has stated that if he had been listened to when he opposed former governor Nasir El-Rufai\u2019s acquisition of\u00a0loans, Kaduna State would not have found itself in the current quagmire of a multi-million dollar debt burden.
