Muhuyi Magaji, the embattled head of the Kano State<\/a> Anti-Corruption and Public Grievances Commission, alleges that he’s facing pressure from certain individuals to probe the incumbent governor, Abba Kabir.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Magaji shared that his investigations kicked off with Abdullahi Ganduje, the past governor of the North-Western state and incumbent National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not desperate to prosecute Ganduje,\u201d said the state anti-graft chairman who insisted that public officials be accountable.<\/p>\n

When asked whether he would also probe the current governor, Magaji said, \u201cThat is what people are instigating.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Kano anti-graft chairman, who said he was being viewed as a \u201cstubborn person\u201d in some quarters, insisted that the court ruled that money laundering was a federal offence but the commission has the right to probe alleged corruption and maladministration by the Ganduje administration.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Kano High Court would arraign Ganduje on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, on charges bordering on allegations of bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38bn in bribes.<\/p>\n

Ganduje, who was Kano governor between May 2015 and May 2023, has been under pressure to resign his position as the APC national chairman.<\/p>\n

The situation escalated on Monday as APC executives in Ganduje’s Kano ward suspended him, demanding that he prove his innocence regarding corruption allegations raised against him by the state government.<\/p>\n

Contrarily, the party’s state executives swiftly nullified the suspension and penalized the implicated ward officials.<\/p>\n
