The Presidential candidate of the Labor Party in last year’s election, Peter Obi<\/a> has asserted that the last general election in the country was plagued with fraud and widespread irregularities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Obi said the election was marred by glitches despite the enormous money spent to conduct the exercise.<\/p>\n

In a series of posts on X which were sighted by Africa Today News, New York , Obi wrote: \u201cNigeria\u2019s 2023 election, with less than 30% of Voter turnout, over 60% of the polling stations starting late, and no diaspora voting, the elections were plagued by allegations of fraud and widespread irregularities, all forms of glitches, despite an enormous expenditure to the tune of about a billion dollars (direct allocation of =N=313 Billion and donor agencies support).<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWith about 60% voter turnout, over 90% of polling open on time, allowing diaspora voting, the results and updates were real-time without any form of technical glitches during the election.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The former Anambra State governor said the controversy trailing Nigeria\u2019s electoral process is a painful reminder of the country\u2019s ongoing struggles with democratic governance.<\/p>\n

Obi came third behind his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Obi<\/a>, has clarified that he remains a committed member of the Labor Party.<\/p>\n

Obi\u2019s clarifications came against the backdrop of the controversy over which political party would claim ownership of the Obedient movement.<\/p>\n

Obi was quoted in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labor Party, Obiora Ifo, Thursday, stating that for the avoidance of doubt, \u2018I remain a committed, Loyal Labor Party member.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is my definitive response to all Nigerians who may be in doubt about my party affiliation in the light of recent reports and conflicting interpretations of recent political expressions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have just been confronted by a Journalist at Abuja airport wanting to know if my statement on the Obedient Movement yesterday is a signal of my leaving the Labour Party. \u201cFor the attention of all those holding such an impression and for the general public, I remain a faithful, committed and loyal member of the Labour Party.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed as a Leader of the party, my aspiration, and desire to work closely with other Leaders is to reconcile our valued members, and partner with like minds, and parties all over the country to build a strong and better Party that will catalyze and commence the rebuilding of a new Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy statement yesterday was intended to clarify some issues that are of concern to our teeming supporters some of whom are not members of any political party but are desirous for a new Nigeria. Our goal and aspirations remain that a new Nigeria is possible\u201d he stated\u201d.<\/p>\n

Africa Today News, New York reports that political analysts have suggested that Obi might be on his way out of the Labor Party to join a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n
