How can I fight a battle with him? Those I fight are people who want to steal what they did not work for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe President called me to make peace; I said, \u2018Boss, how will you tell me to make peace and I won\u2019t?&#8217;\u201d he said in an interview with the BBC Pidgin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The disagreement between Wike and Fubara led to a political crisis in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/africatodaynewsnewyork.com\/2025\/05\/13\/fubaras-wike-visit-a-sacrifice-for-peace-elders\/\">Fubara\u2019s Wike Visit, A Sacrifice For Peace \u2014 Elders<\/a><\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Consequently, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Fubara, his deputy, and the House of Assembly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He also appointed a retired naval c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hief, Ibok-Ete\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ibas, as the sole administrator to pilot\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the affairs of the s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">tate for the first six mon<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ths.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The president\u2019s decision led to protests and counter-protests by different groups in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Worried by Tinubu\u2019s decision, 11 Peoples Democratic Party governors filed a suit at the Supreme Court to challenge his action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"706\">The National Assembly has urged the Federal High Court to strike out a suit filed by governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are seeking to block any move to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State. Lawmakers argued that the suit is procedurally defective, devoid of legal substance, and should not be entertained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"708\" data-end=\"989\">In its filing, the Assembly maintained that the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter and described the litigation as speculative and frivolous. It further demanded that the plaintiffs be penalized with a N1 billion cost order for what it described as a waste of judicial time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1375\">Amid the ongoing legal and political wrangling, Governor Siminalayi Fubara appeared to signal a departure\u2014both literal and symbolic\u2014from the embattled seat of power. Speaking on May 11 at a service of songs held in Port Harcourt in honour of the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, the governor remarked, \u201cDo you even know if I want to go back there?
