Abubakar Malami<\/a>, who previously served as Nigeria\u2019s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, has announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a statement he personally signed and released on Wednesday, titled \u201cTo the Good People of Kebbi and Fellow Nigerians,\u201d Malami explained that his defection came after extensive consultations and deep personal reflection.<\/p>\n

He clarified that the decision was not borne out of personal ambition or resentment, but rather from his love for the country and concern about the daily hardships faced by Nigerians.<\/p>\n

Malami urged citizens to set aside fear and take charge of their future, stating that Nigeria belongs to everyone.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cNigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes, especially in the North. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives while the government prioritises politics over the safety of its citizens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to the former minister, the economic realities facing Nigerians have become unbearable, citing a sharp increase in the cost of living, food inflation, and growing unemployment among youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur economy is in shambles. Prices of basic food items have tripled. The poor can no longer feed their families. Jobs are disappearing. Young people are hopeless,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He also faulted the current administration\u2019s handling of governance, accusing it of replacing merit with political patronage in critical appointments and national decision-making.<\/p>\n

Malami said, \u201cGovernance has been abandoned. Appointments, projects, and policies are now guided by political loyalty and not national interest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot remain part of a system that watches in silence as Nigerians suffer and die.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abubakar Malami, the former Minister of Justice who hails from Kebbi State, explained that his decision to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aligns with a broader coalition of political leaders working towards a new direction for Nigeria.<\/p>\n

He stated that he chose the ADC because it is a platform founded on principles of justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal. Malami expressed confidence that, with the backing of Nigerians and through this coalition, it would be possible to forge a new path for the country.<\/p>\n

Addressing his supporters in Kebbi State, Malami reassured them of his unwavering commitment to their welfare and political aspirations. He described himself as both their son and servant, promising never to abandon them.<\/p>\n

He further noted that his move to the ADC was aimed at amplifying their voices, safeguarding their interests, and restoring hope for the future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
