The United States Department of State has imposed new restrictions on Nigerian travelers, announcing that non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas<\/a> issued to citizens will now be valid for only three months and limited to a single entry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The United States Mission in Nigeria announced on Tuesday that the decision was part of President Donald Trump\u2019s broader policy on reciprocal non-immigrant visas, a directive that has affected multiple nations, Nigeria included.<\/p>\n

\u201cEffective immediately, most non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas issued to citizens of Nigeria will be single-entry visas with a three-month validity period,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

The mission said US non-immigrant visas issued before July 8, 2025, would retain their status and validity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish to underscore that, as is standard globally, visa reciprocity is a continuous process and is subject to review and change at any time, such as increasing or decreasing permitted entries and duration of validity,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

The mission said that US visa criteria and standards are designed to protect the integrity of the US immigration system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese standards are based on global technical and security benchmarks. The U.S. Mission is working with the Government of Nigeria to ensure that Nigeria can meet the criteria.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States values its longstanding relationship with Nigeria and remains committed to expanding our partnership based on mutual respect, shared security priorities, and economic opportunity, keeping both our countries safer and stronger.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe commend the ongoing efforts by the Government of Nigeria\u2019s immigration and security agencies to meet standards of international best practices. We continue to engage with Nigerian government officials to address the remaining challenges,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The US Mission urged Nigerian travellers to strictly comply with the conditions attached to their visas and to maintain valid, genuine, and current travel documents at all times.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the US Department of State has introduced fresh limitations on Nigerian visa holders, revealing that non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas granted to Nigerian citizens will henceforth carry a validity of just three months and permit only a single entry into the country.<\/p>\n
