The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi<\/a>, has cruised to victory in the Presidential election conducted in Cross River State.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Obi who is widely considered to be the underdog of the election, defeated his fellow contenders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar; and New Nigeria Peoples Pary (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso to win the state.<\/p>\n

The final results, which were announced at the presidential election collation centre in Cross River early Tuesday morning, indicated that Obi polled 179,917, besting Tinubu\u2019s 130,520, Atiku\u2019s 95,425, and Kwankwaso\u2019s 1,644.<\/p>\n

This makes Obi\u2019s fourth state win after Nasarawa, Enugu, and Lagos.<\/p>\n

Africa Today News, New York reports that the triumph for the former Anambra State governor in the Cross River is significant for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n

For one, Cross River is historically a PDP state, having seen three consecutive two-term governors emerging from the party since 1999, including the incumbent Governor Ben Ayade when he was elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019.<\/p>\n

However, Ayade\u2019s defection to the APC in 2021 earned the ruling party a crucial South-South state after losing Edo State to the PDP and a recently defected Governor Godwin Obaseki, who won the state\u2019s lone 2020 governorship poll.<\/p>\n

In Cross River, the presidential poll recorded 1,691,642 registered voters.<\/p>\n

There were 416,968 valid votes, while 24,608 were rejected, adding up to 441,576 total votes.<\/p>\n

In another report, Nigeria\u2019s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika on Monday, admitted that the performance of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP),\u00a0Peter Obi<\/a>\u00a0has shown that ballots certainly existed on social media, especially Twitter.<\/p>\n

Sirika pointed out that Obi wouldn\u2019t have displayed a performance as he did during Saturday\u2019s Presidential and National Assembly elections if Twitter was not so important for electioneering.<\/p>\n

The minister stated this in a tweet via his Twitter account.<\/p>\n
